Diet and food habits

Proper food habits are one of the crucial factors that determine our overall fitness. In fact it holds the key to the physical well being of our bodies. Strangely enough it's accepted but seldom practiced unwholesome foods are preferred to the nutritious. In some sense modern lifestyle is indifferent to the call of dietary reform. But unless we realize the importance and make appropriate change sin our dietary plans, it could prove fatal.

Since obesity has been defined as a pathological condition characterized by an accumulation of fat in excess of the necessary for optimum function, a more accurate measurement is determined by hydrostatic weighing - or by the simple pinch an inch test. If you can pinch an inch of fat at your lower rib you are over weight. Africans in rural areas who eat enormous quantities of food do not get fat because a large proportion of their food intake consists of a fibre diet, which is big in bulk and therefore does not contain very large quantities of fattening carbohydrates.

WAYS TO FEEL GOOD

Walk up to someone you love. Put your arms around their waist. Ask them to do the same to you. A hug is the warmest, most comforting feeling in the world.

Do good to feel good. If you are standing in a queue, let an older person go ahead of you. This gives you a "helper's high” feeling.

Connect with great writers or philosophers. Visit a book store; read the topics you enjoy the most. You may also browse through the net to read something interesting.

Treat yourself to soothing instrumental music in the comfort of your car, or just before bedtime.
Spend time with children - They will remind you to laugh. Here's how to get started, create a comic filled "basket of laughter" for the family. On a rainy day, cozy up in a rocking chair with tea and kids, and laugh to your heart's fill.

Come out of feelings that are dreadful and anxiety. This will stop adding problems unnecessarily.

Drink water - The next time you feel tired, drink a tall glass of water. Water replenishes the body's moisturizer levels, a flush away accumulated debris and waste from cells, assist the digestive process, rejuvenate the organs and helps you resist the urge to eat, we often mistake thirst for hunger.

How to fight emotional abuse

Emotional abuse affects its victims primarily in two ways. “Either you cow down and become mentally ill or you become a stronger person”. “You learn to accept the relationship or the person as they are and search for you needs elsewhere, looking towards self-help courses or spirituality in order to make peace with yourself.”

The first step in finding a solution to emotional abuse is to name it. Acknowledge to yourself that the behavior and feelings you are being subjected to, is indeed, emotional abuse. Your ability to be separate from your partner – an alive and thinking human being – is what your abuser most fears. Unable to tolerate you as you are – your abuser set s out to create an artificial self that he/she is then able to mold. The underlying thread in this dynamic is the abuser’s low regard for him/her. Hence, you are taught to feel and believe all those things the abuser was taught to feel about him/her.

Once you recognize this pattern, it is then easier to break it and get out of the clutches of the abuser. Of course, the worst thing about emotional abuse is its invisibility. You cannot see it, describe it or even show the scars to anybody else. But you know within that some thing is terribly wrong with the relationship. There is no laughter in it, no healthy communication and something deep and vital is simply missing. So, before your sense of self is totally chipped away, wake up to the signs and know that you are not alone.
