How Different Blood Group

If you already know which blood group you belong to like A, B, O or AB you may be wondering what these signs mean? Although the blood looks same when looked under a microscope, it is not same for all of us. We all have different type of blood. Certain substances vary from one individual to another in the blood. These are found in the red blood corpuscles which makes the differences.

For example, a person with blood group A has the agglutinogen (a substance found in the bloodstream which produces specific anti-bodies) in his/her red corpuscles, and agglutinogen B in their plasma. A person with blood group B will have agglutinegen B in the red corpuscles and in their plasma. Likewise the other groups have differences which create different type of blood.

It is important to understand the blood group of an individual before any transfusion. If these differences are not taken into account the incompatible blood transfusion will result if fatal. However, blood group O is known as universal donor as people belonging to this group have red corpuscles without agglutinins and blood group AB is known as universal recipient as they have no agglutinins
